Nearly 15 years ago, Ruud gave me a mix tape he compiled, called Junglemania. I must have listened to it dozens of times, as it was the first full length drum and bass mix I had heard. The music style has never been very popular here and so records of this style were not very much available around these parts either. Now, with Beatport, drum and bass tracks are at your fingertips, just like other genres.
The last couple of months I came across some great dnb tracks at Beatport that grabbed me. A selection of those tracks made it into a set which defines dnb for me: melody, insane bass lines, creativity and audacity. I love the parts around ‘The more I want’ and ‘Reason Being’ the most (insane bass line with Seba’s Vanity). The tracks around the 40-56 minute mark remind me of Junglemania again. The last track concludes the mix very nicely. And all of this at a steady 174 bpm.
Thanks to Ruud for his photoshop skills on the cover. It used to point to 176 :P And due to popular demand, I have opened a Soundcloud account, so you can stream the mix as well.
